Just Cracked My SV HD100 Open (Job Done Have Pics)

I'm installing mini switches on the front of the amp to access the 4 Push modes for the SVpre. While I have it open, I realized that I have a EH 12AX7 tube sitting around. The same one that came with the SVpre, I'm replacing the V1 preamp tube with it. Also I'm going to replace the LEDs. I'd love to make the faceplace glow purple which is my favorite color, but I think red would look better.

I play in a Punk/Hardcore band and have played through L6 gear for over 9 years. I bought a L6 spider when they first came out and no one even knew who they were, but everyone was amazed at the sound of this 75 watt 1x12 "monster of tone" and I was in a jam band, then L6 started getting bigger(more people found out what they were missing for the $). The next prodject I started was heavy and I needed a half stack so I bought the spider2 hd150 and a Laney cab from my friend, still before we played everyone wanted to know how the L6 was and they were loving my amp after they heard it, but also saying how hard they found it to get that head to sound good in the store. It just takes some tweaking like any amp.Then in early 2008 I bought the svhd100 and I was amazed( I even bought the head with out even playing through one)and dont get me wrong the L6 is a modeling amp, but it moddels the best amps in the buisness, not exactly but most people will not notice much of a diffrence. now I have recently bought a Bogner Uberschall ( search for the perfect tone) and it is an amazing amp, but my SV HD100 is still a great amp. Basicly what I'm trying to say is L6 is great gear, and not everyone can afford $1600+ for a tube head. And the people who can great, but dont knock theL6 users for tryning to get the tones that only a hand full of people can even purchase. so if you use L6 dont be ashamed be proud that you can get the tones that you need with out breaking the bank. It could be worse, you could be playing through a crate or some other pos!!!

PS next time someone says L6 sucks look at what they are using and listen to there sound, you'll be suprised how good L6 is. listen to the tracks on my bands page and tell me L6 is no good

I'd like anyone who is having issues with pops and clicks with these sepcific processors and our drivers to please post on this thread EXACT computer specs and a concise and detailed recipe of how you are able to reproduce these pops and clicks.

I've been streaming music now on an HP DV9 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor on Vista Home Basic 32 bit now for about an hour without one pop, click or CPU spike. Help me reproduce this so I can help you guys get up and running! Thanks.

The M9 user interface - Line 6 missed the mark

I find that the single LCD on the M9 makes for a very limiting user interface. You've gotta have a damn good memory to essentially memorize what you've placed in any of six slots in six, or even worse 24, different scenes because the M9 does virtually nothing to help you know what's where ("Hmm, is that blue light in the top row of the second slot of scene 4 a flanger or a chorus? And which delay is that green light?" - this is not an easy decision process in the middle of a gig when someone calls a tune, or even in the middle of a song). I like my M9 and I've decided to keep it, but this limitation was almost a deal breaker for me.

To be honest, I think the user interface is a fundamental design flaw of both the M9 and M13. I mean come on, an LCD that displays a small black font on a blue background for crying out loud? Figure that the average player is nearly six feet away from that display or more if you're leaning back or whatever, and it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to realize that it's going to be hard to read. To me, Line 6 has designed a performance-based product that has a UI more suited to desktop use. What other pro-level, floor-based unit has such a tiny and unreadable display?

I think Line 6 should have incorporated either a second, easy to read LED display (too late for that, obviously) or they should somehow configure the existing LCD/LCD's to display a larger font on a lighter backround. Maybe a user-definable scene name that scrolls in the window or something like that. With the M9's single LCD this is particularly important.

I recently bought a POD X3 Live and found about the USB audio drop out problem. So, I need tips on alternative ways to record using a computer, knowing that I use POD Farm Plug-in in Ableton Live. I pretty sure it's not my computer though, this is a very good cpu I have, a beast. I think it has more to do with the music recording software I'm using, Magix Music Maker 10. This is particularly cheap software, like 60 bucks 4 or 5 years ago. My friend gave it to me. It does alright and can use the plugins, gearbox or pod farm. When I have 7-9 tracks using the plugins its tough for my computer to keep things smooth, no hick ups etc. Is this gonna be a problem no matter what kind of recording software I use? Is there a limit to how many tracks can use the plugins at once before it freaks even the best computers out. I was thinking about getting Cakewalk Sonar software. Will this help? I record guitar, bass and vocals dry through the POD X3 live and use plugins in the mixer of Magix Music Maker to get things to sound best so I want to have pod plugins on lots of tracks if needed. Please can some one give me the rundown/technical specs on this? Thanks.

Pod X3 Live blank screen and no sound

I went to my gig last night and my Pod X3 Live started with a blank lit up screen and no sound. All other buttons lit up correctly, could change patches/banks, tap tempo etc, but a full blank screen and no sound.

I thought it could be adapter problem so I used the Line 6 adapter of the other guitarist in the band, but nth changed.

I tried to start the unit in safe mode, it apparently started in Safe Mode (no other pedals lit up this time), but since the screen remained blank I could do NTH!!! So I had to play the whole pop/rock band gig with a guitar directly into PA as the lead player of the band. If you play one gig like that, you'll know what I suffered!

When I got home, I connected X3 to my PC and Monkey recognizes the device, so does Gearbox. I can change the patches in Gearbox, but still no sound.

And what is more funny Monkey doesn't show the firmware info and the driver details in its "update" page.

I tried to record into Ableton Live. There is such an extremely low level and distorted sound. It is clear that the device can change patches, I could hear it after I normalized the recorded tracks.

I also tried reinstalling the Monkey and the device drivers, but nth changed.

So this is my 3rd Line 6 Device that leaves me in frustration in the middle of gig on stage. I experienced the same with my Variax 700 guitar and also with my bass, both with the very common "suddenly some strings go softer or even silent than the others" problem.

So how angry should I be and what is your solution to my Pod X3L problem?

I'm wondering if anyone else feels the same as me. L6 is an american company right? and I know that they build them in China to keep down the cost for everyone, and that helps out everyone. But my problem is the speaker choice. Don't get me wrong Celestion has made some very defining sounds, but are they realy the right choice for L6? I mean Eminence is made in the USA, so why does a USA based company use chinese crap? why not help out the Americans, and Besides that Eminence speakers sound much better than Celestions do anymore ( Probably that whole not made in England thing) take for example the Celestion V30 and compare them to a governor by Eminence ( just bear with me) I know they are not the "Same" eventhough they are compared against each-other. But the Governer is a WAY smother sound than a V30. And thae eminence V12 $69.00 retail kills a V30 what is it now $149? or in my opinion the K100 roughly the same priceas a V30. and for less than 1/2 the price ....RETAIL!!!! so wouldn't it be nice if Americans BOUGHT AMERICAN? I've been watching alot of the @hitty economy crap lately. So my question is Who else feals this way. I know there are some people who couldn't live with out a real Celestion speaker, but honestly are they still celestions?Eminence are made in the USA with ,and get this USA parts!!!!! This has been bugging me so let me know your thoughts.

Hi,

I just recently installed Windows 7 64bit operating system, this is final retail version.

I have POD XT live and Pod farm, etc and I installed the POD XT live drivers and Line 6 Monkey. However, whenever I play back an audio, it has a crackling sound.

I don't know why this is happening. I also browsed the forum and tried some of the suggested work arounds but this issue isn't resolved.

Can you please tell me what I should do to resolve this crackling sound?

Also the LIne 6 Monkey doesn't show anything listed all under Updates. I installed the Line 6 Monkey 64bit version that is supposed to be compatible for Vista 64bit but that

didn't make any difference and the crackling sound is still there.

Spider Valve MKII Comms board

Hi guys.

I've tried asking Line6 this off the board, but I've got no response. which is fine. if the answer is 'yes it will work' then that means some of us wont upgrade our amps. but that's not my point.

I would like to by a SV MKII maybe a head, maybe a combo. I'm not 100% sure on that yet. I hear the SVPre is on its way for the MKII in a few months, so that's good news. but here's what I'm thinking.

I have an SV Pre and my SV12 is way out of warranty now anyway, and I have taken a look at the communications board in the amp before, and my feeling is that the FBV communications protocols are something similar to MIDI, but with a fundamental difference so that they're not compatible. BUT it would be silly of line6 to make the FBV protocol so different to MIDI that some kind of translator device couldn't sit in the back of the amp with FBV and MIDI on one board (as I guess it is in the MKII, as when you look at other amps with both like the vetta, the FBV and MIDI ports are next to each other) and then basically the amp's channel switching is controlled by FBV, and the MIDI signals are just translated in the amp in realtime.

So where am I going with this... well is communications board in the SV MKII (with FBV and MIDI on it) the same as the SV MKI board but with the added MIDI things and the MIDI to FBV translator?? If this is the case, and the actual connections from the board to the amp are identical in the SV MKI and MKII that would mean that some of us who will eventually own an SV MKI and an SV MKII could try to buy this board from a line6 service center and swap it out, thus giving us the ability to control both amps with out M13!!

obviously those of us who choose to control the amp with FBV pedals, can control both amps at the same time using space's fbv Y splitter (i guess... has anyone tested this with 2 SV's yet?) and then use the MIDI out on the SV MKII to perhaps change scenes on the M13 if thats possible.

anyone got any ideas about the comms board or the other info?

Pod XT Live Expression Pedal Failure

My expression pedal has been giving me fits lately. During the last several performances (I play every weekend) it's been a guessing game with this thing. When I power up the unit it will perform as it always has in the past but lately after a short time the expression pedal will suddenly fail the result being full output of the particular patch down the line.. Sometimes if I power down and power back up the problem will go away but then reappear a short time later. It's unpredictable. Other times when I power up the expression pedal doesn't work at all, full volume. I've been running a cry baby down line to try to manage this but it very inconvenient and is certainly not what I want. I've read about recalibrating the pedal but that doesn't sound like thats the answer. The pedal does work SOMETIMES b ut only for a short time. Whats up?

FBV shortboard malfunction

Yesterday I used my new Spider IV 150 w/ MK II shortboard with the band for the first time. I moved it from home, plugged it in and hooked up the shortboard. The amp worked and the board lit up but the volume pedal was on full and would not shut off in the heel down position. I was able to switch pre -sets but still no volume pedal. I procceded to use the gear without the pedal and after a while it started to work. Then the wah wah quit working. With the wah turned on both the green volume and the red wah light were lit, but the wah wah didn't function. After playing for a while I tried it again and it worked! I've got it set up again at home and everything seem to be fine. What happened? I bought this rig to try and simplify my gear set up but so far it's been a real headache. I confess that I'm not a techie and I may have bungled something but it was working fine at home ,and it's not as complicated as my Pod X3 Live pedal, which works fine...so far.

Also the FBV calibration steps that come with the downloaded Advanced Guide for the Spider amp don't do anything. I followed the directions to "power off the board, press and hold the 'D' footswitch while powering on the board'. There's supposed to be an LCD readout :Calibrate Pedal" but there isn't any such display . So I don't know if this thing is even "Calibrated". It seems to work fine, when it's working. Is it actually necessary to calibrate it?

No firmware/driver update for X3 Pro with Monkey

I've just bought an X3 Pro, and wanted to update the drivers and firmware, both of which are at 1.00.

I have the latest version of Monkey installed, and it identfies my X3 Pro is connected. However, in the updates tab, the only thing that shows up is the Applications sub menu. No drivers/ firmware options to be seen (which can be seen in the updates tab when I switch devices to my XT Pro). So there is seemingly no way to update the firmware or drivers!

Any help very much appreciated.

In U2 'emulations' lots of people write to set a digital delay as a dotted eight note.

When using knob 2 I can set a numeric amount or a dotted note.

I cannot find a description of the symbol that represents the dotted eight.

Can anybody tell me what the notes represent in human language ?

Recording vids directly to PC using Mic or USB plug

Hey I was wondering if this question/issue has came up in the past. I am trying to record a vid for youtube using my POD x3 live by using the webcam software provided with my PC. When I record direct, (mic or USB connection), there seems to be an audio clipping/dropout/chopping going on. I have adjusted the recording volume and that has cured the clipping issue so it records the full spectrum of the sound but it hasnt fixed the other problem. The volume dips on the recorded track and does not stay consistent. I think I have found a way to circumnavigate this issue but its somewhat of a headache by recording the video on mute and recording the track on Audacity Beta 1.3 (which is an awesome software!!) and then using windows movie maker to combine the two to overlay the tracks. If you have any ideas on how to remove that step I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Sound Squeak when using pedal as volume or wah

I read a question about a squeak but it sounded like it was coming from the user's pedal and not from the sound single from the pod.

Tried to download Java Environment on SunnSystems webpage, it says concerning Apple MAC System/OS

that the java on MACOSX is included and should check MAC UPDATE for the plateform but it cant find anything new or updates.

I just can't use my gears on my laptop. Especially my POD PRO XT (Updated and full ModelPacks options)

So what now ?

variax out of tune, intonation didn't help

Hello! I've had my variax 500 electric guitar a couple of years now and it has worked flawlessly until now. When I play barre chords with the lowest keynote on the a-string (for example a high E) the b-string and the g-string doesn't "agree" and i get that tremolo effect which occures when the guitar isn't in tune. However the guitar is perfectly tuned cause when checking the strings separately on those frets that are problematic they're in tune. And I tested to record when first playing on the b-string and then I dubbed that with playing on the g-string and it sounds perfect. It's only when they're played together at the same time it sounds out of tune. If i tune down the b-string just a little it dissapears, but then all other chords gets out of tune. As i've just had it in for intonation I know that that isn't the problem, and i've checked that all frets are in tune. My guess is that something is wrong with the technical part of the guitar, maybe the piezo mics are damaged or something in the "computer" of the guitar. I don't know what to do, I guess I need to get service, but when searching for a service center in sweden i get no results, why is that?

Using a Boss FV-500H pedal with the X3 Live

Was wondering how to calibrate this pedal when connecting it to the X3 Live. I connected it to the Pedal 2 Input as an expression pedal. The problem I'm having is the toe down position is minimum and the heel down position is maximum. How do I reverse this? Is this pedal compatible with the X3 Live?

Crackling in monitors, using Toneport UX1

I've tried the recommendations that have already been posted, including optimizing my computer settings, downloading the latest drivers and software versions, and trying different settings for buffer size, bitrate, and so on. I've checked all the hardware (monitors are brand new, cables are new/not damaged). My computer should be plenty fast enough (and when I'm not using monitors, it handles the recording software fine, with processing and memory to spare). So I've kind of reached my wits end...I just spent a bunch of money on these monitors and I can't hear anything but crackling static.

Hardware:

Laptop (Windows Vista, 64bit, 2.10GHz, 4.0GB RAM)

Toneport UX1 (connected by USB 2.0)

Flash Update on display

Hi,

I have a problem with my POD X3Live.

I played 2 hours, pod was connected into computer via USB.

Next i turned off POD for 15min. Computer was still turned on.

When i turned on again, on the display showed first Line 6 Logo and next text "UPDATE FLASH".

When I update flash via Monkey on the display show text "UPDATE FLASH..."

But after restart POD X3 Live, this text is still on display .

Can you help me? Or i have to send my pod to repair?

I think I may have an unwinnable situation here. I get alot of hum whenever I plug in my PODxt to my computer via usb.
I can alleviate these problems by

Removing power from the laptop and having it run on battery power alone (I've tried different outlets and different power strips)

Not using a tone setting with a lot of overdrive

unplug the usb (duh), but that makes recording slightly impossible (I think)

If I touch either pickup (humbucker) the hum goes away

I've done some reading, and appears as though this is a ground loop issue that there isn't a solution for (or one I found)
Granted I am on some heavy meds and my focus isn't the best.
Now this does not happen on all guitars equally

So, does anyone know how I can have my USB and eat it too?

Thanks in advance. Oh yea, I can control the hum with volume as well, but I lose the dirt if I lose the volume.

Hello,

I bought the line 6 pod farm for my boyfriend so he could record his music and burn it to a CD. When I went to Guitar Center, that is what I told them I was trying to do and they sold me the Line 6 Pod farm. And while he absolutely loves it and all that he can do with it, he still cannot seem to get it to actually record his playing to his computer in any format that can be shared or burned to a CD. Is he missing a step or is he missing some other system or program that is needed to actually be able to accomplish that part?

i'm unlucky to experience the TonePort pops & clicks issue.

I've been said to start a new topic and post my pc's specs, so it could help.

So:

ASUS k50AB (notebook)

Windows XP SP3, 32-bit, slightly modified (just for the looks +few program installed, not important)

AMD ATHLON X2 QL-64 (2.10 GHz, 1MB cache)

4 GB RAM (Windows reads only 3,25 GB because it's an XP, still)

ATI Radeon 4570 (i doubt that's important, but whatever)

250 GB HDD

WiFi IEEE 802.11b/g/n
LAN 100 Mbps

So you can see i experience the common noise problem on Windows XP and having an Athlon, not Turion.

I've got TonePort UX1.

None of the solutions posted helped.

Please do something, i hope you guys will be able to fix this.

This thread was started purely to direct people to the feature request page on this site which people are doing and that's great.

Whining and complaining doesn't achieve anything, so please don't drag down the intention of this thread with negativity.

There appears to be some misconceptions driving negative comments. Just because the POD X3 manages 2 tone paths doesn't mean it has 2 processors, it doesn't. If you open it up and peek inside you'll see just one Sharc processor in there. Also, with the improvements in the sound on the X3, Line 6 told us that the modelling was improved to take advantage of the processing power and the digital sample rate, this too would chew up a big chunk of processing power. The POD X3 has all the bass and vocal stuff in there already. It handles 8 tracks of digital data out the USB port at a high sample rate, more grunt gone on that too.

So, I am guessing that when the code cutters got hold of the hardware, they packed as much into the unit as the hardware could handle without leaving much room for any extras.

Where that leaves us is quite simple. We say thanks for making the POD X3 so much better than the PODxt, but if it's possible, could we see some of the new effects that have been developed for the M13 included in the POD X3?

It doesn't hurt to be polite. My parents taught me to say "please".

Pod 2.0 to laptop connection freak-out and frustration!

I have been trying to download Line6 edit and Line6 Monkey, and I am way past frustrated. One of the main reasons I bought the Pod 2.0, was to go online and download custom tones. I can't even get the edit and monkey software to load...keeps asking me to make sure I am connected to the Internet because Java runtime environment needs to be installed, or to connect my Pod to my computer; I am, it is, but it won't.

...$200 for this Pod, and then I find out I have to buy a MIDI to USB cable in order to use it with my computer (seriously, how hard would it have been to have a freakin' USB port on the Pod 2.0? Should I really have to pay $300 for the Pod XT to have it. Come on, seriously???!!!). I'm a little annoyed until I find out the cable costs about 50 bucks, and "a little annoyed" turns into: really, really annoyed. I mean, come-on, 3 more cables and I could have bought another Pod 2.0!!

I've downloaded installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled edit, monkey, Java, and JRE a dozen times. I even completely reinstalled Windows XP on my computer to start fresh. NOTHING WORKS AND YOUR SUPPORT INSTRUCTIONS ARE CONFUSING AND INCOMPLETE!!!

Now, having said all this, I love the Pod 2.0 itself...great sounds. But can someone please help me GET THIS THING HOOKED UP AND TALKING TO MY PC BEFORE I GO COMPLETELY NUTTS?

Got my Toneport UX2 running through my Mac via USB, and have the main audio running out of that to monitors. When using it sometimes, the audio suddenly becomes choppy and distorted, almost at a rate of 1 'blip' per second. I restart the mac and everything is fine again until it happens. What is going on??

Upgrade not working properly

I have a podxt live which is 4yrs old now. The problem that i am facing is that when i upgraded its flash memory with the newer version, line6 edit showed me the added amps and all but the thing is the patches dont work properly anymore. The reverb and delay didnt work for any settings. So i again rollbacked my version and now the delay and reverb are working properly and line6 is showing the earlier no. of amps.

TonePort DI-S No Sound

I just received my TonePort DI-S from my GuitarPort bundle. I installed all of the software. I have the TonePort plugged in. I have a green light. I have re-installed drives more than once. I have restarted the computer more than once. I have switched USB port, computer front panel not a hub. I have all of the up to date Drivers, USB, Gear Box, etc.

I am getting no sound through my computer speakers from the Guitar. I see needles moving on Gear Box. I have twisted knobs, pushed buttons, tried combinations of things. I can hear the video tutorials played from the embedded browser at the bottom of gear box just fine.

I know there is something super simple that I am not seeing here. Why can't I hear my guitar played through my PC speakers?

New to Line 6....Need Help!

Ok…I’m new to Line 6 products so forgive me if I sound ignorant & naïve about these products. I really could use some advice as to what products I need and how they work together. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok…first, what I am looking for:

1. I want to plug my guitar directly into a PA and be able to get great sounds from it.

2. I also want to do some desktop recording. I currently use Garageband 09 and I really like the Pod Farm interface and would love to be able to integrate it with garageband for my guitar tones.

3. I need to use some of the patches from the custom tone site in order to replicate specific tones when performing covers.

4. While I really want to use a unit for performing live, I don’t like the idea of having to be hunched over my unit trying to dial in tones. I would love to be able to have all of the tones I will need worked out ahead of time and just be able to trigger them later by stepping on a pedal.

5. I am confused between the line 6 monkey, pod farm, and gear box software. I want to be able to control my unit with the computer and then take the unit to a gig to recall what I created on the computer.

Some questions I have:

What is the difference between using a Pod X3 or XT with a FBV Shortboard instead of the X3 & XT Live models? I like the idea of being able to play with the pod without bending over and still have triggers to use with my feet.

When using custom tone, is it as simple as downloading the patch from the site and triggering when stepping on a pedal?

Thanks for any input…I’m new to this world of Line 6 and multi effect units and amp simulators.

High pitched whine

While recording a kawai k5000 I get a high pitched whine this also happens if I even turn on gearbox or podfarm. So far I have tried 2 different computers, running the laptop off battery power, switching outlets, switching the power cord on the Kawai, using all ports on ux8, switching the ux8 and k5000 to different outlets, using new audio cables and using a new usb cable on the ux8.

Some strange details: usually I run things through a mixer and effects before going into the ux8, even with the voulme down to 0 on everything the whine perists. Plugging the audio cable from the k5000 1/4 of the way into the mixer and there is no whine, but I can't change the volume! It's only the k5000 that is doing it. The whine is there even with the k5000 off, but goes away if it is unplugged. I tried using a behringer ufo interface and it is fine, plugging straight into the onboard sound card it is fine, plugng right into a zoom h4n it is fine as well. In some ways it seems like a k5000 problem, but all other recording interfaces have no whine.

Any other ideas?

UX1 MIC INPUT NOISE

Hello

My MIC entrance in my UX1 makes a lot of noise for itself, even if i have nothing plugged to it!!

Here are the printscreens (again, nothing plugged into MIC)... the noise is, as you can imagine, quite a lot, especially because the only way of hearing myself decenlty without licking the microfone is pushing up the gain up to almost 10dB.

0dB - 7dB - 8dB - 9dB - 10dB -

Please note the noise is independant from the setup i choose, it appears in the dry input as you can see. My guitar input works perfeclty, without any noise, wich makes this even stranger

Direct Monitoring Problem

I am unable to enable "direct monitoring" in cubase. I have only acquired the PODFarm plugin recently so I didn't notice this before. This was happening under cubase 3 sx and now under 5. All steinberg has to say about it is the driver doesn't support it. This is highly frustrating! I have reinstalled all line6 software/drivers and the cubase 5 is a fresh install.

Any ideas?

Monkey doesn't show Pocket POD 1.01 flash update

Hello,

I'm a customer from Germany and bought a Pocket POD back in December, 2007.

Today I read about the 1.01 flash upgrade for my Pocket POD and downloaded the Monkey software v1.31.

I connect my Pocket POD to the power adaptor first and after this connect it to my PC with the Line 6 USB cable, no other cables are connected to the POD.

The POD works fine with the Vyzex v1.17 software, so I launched the Monkey (after closing the Vyzex software). It connects to my Line 6 Account but shows "There are no updates available" :-(

The Pocket POD is registered within my account and the Monkey doesn't show any message about device registration either.

The POD shows "Version 1.00" at startup...

m13 bypassing all effects with one click

Is it possible to bypass all the effects by hitting one button. I have parts in songs that are full of effects accross the board, but it then I have parts for solos as well as dry parts. I need a one button one click type of thing. Is it possible to do this easily with the m13? I understand I can tap a button to turn off the individual fx, however, like I said, I need to be able to do all either on or off at one time as well as have the ability to use it in stomp box mode.

1) do the combos run hot? i know that the modeling portion of the amp is essentially a computer, and we all know computers like to run cool. wouldn't feel very confident about the amp's longevity if it's constantly running hot.

3) any way to save programs? i know there's no Line 6 Edit support. not sure if there's some other way?

4) is the cabinetry plywood, or particle board/mdf? i saw that the 412 cab is plywood so i'd like to think that that's the case w/the combos.

5) aside from the two preamp tubes and maybe different presets, what's the difference between the mk2's and the originals? features aside, is this newer version supposed to sound better?

Pod Studio UX1 Not Working With Windows 7

I've gone through all of the support FAQs/discussions so this is a last-ditch attempt. I am getting sporadic performance from the UX1 on my laptop (brand new, core i7 processor, Win7, 4g ram). Playback stutters, system sounds only happen sometimes (e.g. - running the "test" function on the sound devices control panel only plays sounds less than half the time) - thus I know it's not an issue with my DAW software. Following the manual and support FAQs, I have:

1. disabled antivirus

2. disabled all wireless/bluetooth network adapters

3. disabled the computer's sound card

4. adjusted sound settings (buffers, size, etc.)

Still, the stuttering problem when playing back and the sporadic appearance of system sounds persists. I have the latest Line6 drivers and software. Any other tips?

     Question! Installing my new POD X3L Gearbox.After install it and log on I did update firmware and flash memory.I so far everything proceeded good.After Monkey disappeared update all other drivers (photo). Is that supposed to be? By MONKEY-V1.26 does not have this problem!
   In addition, the device manual I read that in the SYSTEM-POD X3L should see ESN, au I do not. ESN is the Monkey! Device effectively communicates with your computer, Monkey and Gearbox.

so your telling us that we have to use the pod farm or some audio software to hear the line inputs on the kb37? this again is misleading in your advertising. and if I use podfarm I am getting distortion on the line in even when I delete all amps and other devices from the podfarm audio chain. I also don't get a dry channel it still runs through the amps or whatever else is in the audio chain. also I am using the line 1 and 2 inputs, why am I getting audio on the 3 and 4? I am not using an spdif input????

The power supply for my 2.0 is crocked. I know this cus I took the unit into a shop in Derry and he took the power supply out of another POD on sale and plugged my unit in which worked perfectly. The shop has no power supply units in stock for sale on their own. Of course they can order them in but because we're not a major metropolitan area it could be weeks before the shop needs to place an order for stock with Line 6.

Every music shop between here and Galway I've visited and no one stocks Line 6. This fruitless drive around the country has peeved me right off.

Someone please sell me a UK (240/9V/1200w) Line 6 AC Power Supply or I'm gonna have to emmigrate. I'll buy it on line right now if you can point me in the right direction.

I purchased a Pocket POD a few weeks ago. I have registered it to my account and it appears in my account correctly (see attached image: line6_registration_page.jpg Note: username in web account & Monkey the same; serial number blurred out intentionally). I used the Serial # from inside the battery compartment. When I launch Line 6 Monkey v1.31 and log into my account, it give me a dialog box stating, "It appears you have not registered your Pocket POD with your user account." (see attached image: line6_pocketmonkey.jpg). If I click "Register Now...", it takes me to my account page where it shows my device registered to my account. I followed your FAQ and ensured my serial number was in the form 'XXXNLNNNNNNNNNN'. I have tried the following with no success:

Logged out of Line 6 Monkey and log back in.
Waited 1 week to see if the serial number just needed time to associate.
Installed latest version of Line 6 Monkey on a different computer.
Deleted my registered device and re-registered it.

Current state of affairs: My device is currently registered to my account through the website, however Line 6 Monkey still shows it as unregistered.

Although the device is not registered it has allowed me to update to the latest firmware: 1.01, however I would like to ensure that my device is properly registered.

Windows Vista x86_32bit Professional and Ultimate.
Both are single boot systems.
The POD is recognized on both systems.
The Vyzex editor recognizes the device and I can control the POD through it.

I have contacted sonar support and have completed all of their trouble shooting steps. They say it must be my input device. I have tried switching over to my computers sound card and the noise does stop. I have updated all my drivers and have completely reinstalled my ux2 software. I have tried changing all my buffers, driver selection......nothing works. I have had it for over a year. Previously no issues. I have added no new hardware or software. What is going on? -thanks,

Hum and Noise, Noise and Hum

This has probably been discussed many times , but I can't seem to find the answers.

Just got a X3 Live this weekend.

Using a Strat, thru headphones, or through a mackie mixer .... I'm getting a TON of Noise and Hum on pickups 1-3-5. So much so that most patches/presets are unusable due to the xtreme noise. A few presets even exhibit extreme noise using pickup positions 2 and 4.

I've also tried my humbucker guitar and it's a little better, but still more noise than a normal stage setup using a real amp. Waaayyy too much noise.

I've tried several different outlets throughout my house and it stays the same. I would certainly not be able to play this thing out live with this much noise and not being able to use pickups 1-3-5

Any ideas or solutions will be hugely appreciated. Thank you,

UX2 Crashes when receiving a powerful signal?

I've had my UX2 crash on me three different ways, all related to high input levels, or so I believe.

Running a bass into the instrument input, had it turned up loud, needles were over on the right. The UX2 shut down. I unplugged/plugged it back in but Reaper wouldn't recognize it. Had to reboot everything. Creative inspiration killed instantly.

Running 2 mics into the UX2, setting levels on guitar amp. It was loud and the mic gain was up. The UX2 shut down, similar results.

Playing a mix back via Reaper, some of the levels were set high and before I could drop them, the UX2 shut down...

Is this supposed to happen when the UX2 receives too strong a signal or do I have a bad unit? I can't imagine that any level of audio input would physically damage the UX2.

Running Windows XP on a laptop, Reaper, POD Farm. This seems to happen intermittently...which makes me wonder if I have a bad piece of hardware (yet again).

hello everybody @ line6 as a line 6 freak - not since the very first hour, but since i bought a pod xt live - i am now a proud owner of the pod x 3 live. i play it through a marshall 9100 poweramp and a hughes&kettner vintage 4x12 box. when i had to find a subject for a research work that i have to do for my diploma at the SAE in zuerich, switzerland, i came up with the idea of comparing a marshall jcm 900 with both the clean- und dist-channel-emulation in the pod x 3. my plan is to compare the pure pod sound with the pod played through the poweramp and the jcm 900 box, and to compare these with the real amp. i intend to really test the pod out, listening, measuring, comparing waveforms etc. empirically i would expect the pod to do a real good job in this challenge! it is clear to me, that you can't reveal your business secrets just for the success of my work, but... here is my question: could you help me with some deeper insights into the principles that are applied in the pod x 3? could you eventually give me more informations about how the models are designed? ... if it has something to do with convolution or whatever? are there books about programming audio dsp which could help me to understand better how the pod really works? hi I have a little problem with my pod x3

When i change on the stampboard the effect from lets say 1d to 1 c...sound from gearbox hold the line solo (good sound for alive from Pearl Jam...any other suggestion is welcom) and change to Lifeson sound Xanadu (good for bridge sound Alive from pearl jam...any other suggestion is welcom) it is oke. but if i change back again the sound is dropped a few seconds. Irritating while playing with the band on stage and practising.

How can i make sure that will not happen. I have this problem all the time with changing from effect to effect.

Also sometimes he is out of control with volume suddenly or goes to the effect 2

Hello,

I have a UX8 that suddenly stopped working, when i pluged a guitar in INST, port 1

What happened, is that the UX suddenly froze, some clip lights were on, others were dim red, it simply felt like my system was twitching.

So i tried to turn it off, but it didnt work.

I unpluged it and when I pluged it back in and turned it on, the clip lights were going form left to right ( the two clip lights next to the meters were not on nor were they flashing).

and i cannot turn it off, so I have to unplug it again..

I thought it was a tough piece of hardware..

Can anybody please tell me what has gone wrong?

Line 6 edit not working for me - Java Errors?

I have been unsuccessful in getting Line 6 Edit to work. I have downloaded the program twice, and have been present both times to insure that the "recommended" Jave RTE was installed on my computer.

After looking through this forum, I noticed that Line 6 apparently has corrected any problem when using Jave RTE6, which I also installed from the JAVA site in an effort to fix things. This has not corrected my problem. Anyone able to offer an ideas?

When I check my Java properties on my computer, it says I am running build 6.1.blah-blah-blah...should this version not work with Line 6 edit? The Line 6 recommended version (JavaRTE5) is also on my computer. Should I delete JAVA version 6?

When I start the the program, I get the following error message:

extreme cross modulation to aux in channel

I wanted to track two guitars with the following dual tone configuration.

Guitar one to guitar input processed with tone one routed to direct out left.

Guitar two to aux input processed with tone two routed to direct out right.

Both guitars with a high gain distortion sound.

I noticed an extreme cross modulation from the processed signal of tone one into the aux in channel every time a jack connector is put in to the aux input.

First I though it might be a misfunction of my device but I ran the same setup with the devices of one of my collegues and there was the same effect.

I guess this cannot be normal.

So what can I do to prevent such cross modulations?

new amp won't work

Hey,

I just bought a new Spider IV 75 watt amp today. When I got home and plugged in nothing worked. Power was on, the screen lit up, but none of the knobs worked and no sound came out. I had the mastervolume all the way up and my guitar volume all the way up, I turned it on and off and reset factory settings, nothing seems to work.

i have been tweaking this unit.

it never ends, i am using a 5150 peavey with an mc 212 cabinet, (marshall), and lately i been really bothered by the sound i am getting, using the cabinet modeler it seems to add a weird overall bass, and i have to turn almost all the way down the bass on the x3 live, to make it sound somewhat decent but still it lacks something. i tried today without the cabinet modeler just the amp model assuming that my cabinet will color the sound anyway, what i found was a more clear sound, that does not distort as much, and you can turn up the bass on the amp model, and there you go, that amp starts pumping bass all over the way it is supossed to be. i dont know if any one has experienced this i would love to hear from you guys.

Hi all,

This is the situation. I downloaded a patch into my X3 and saved it. Half way playing through my X3, suddenly the sound gone. I tried to change to other preset, there was still no sound. Below were my actions trying to rectify the problem:

- switched it OFF then ON again - no sound

- changed to TUNER mode, the tuner did not have any input signal.

- tried using other guitars and cables - no sound

- swtiched it OFF then ON it again the next day - no sound

Im totally clueless of what had happened to my unit. For info, my unit has never had any problem for the past 2 years. Please help.

JM4 Looper snap crackle & pop

I have a JM4 Looper pedal (firmware 2.09) and I seem to be experiencing an increasing amount of snap, crackle and pop during recording. More specifically, it seems that the recording is fine, but when I go to save it to a WAV file, I get all kinds of pops. At first it was just a few and I thought maybe it was the switch on my guitar or something. But now I'm getting these pops every 5-10 seconds. The recording is fairly simple; a built-in drum track with about 90 seconds of rhythm guitar. Then I save it (as a Jam file) and attempt to record a solo on top of it. Then I save that to a WAV file.

I have also tried just recording a solo straight on top of a built-in song -- no crackle in that case.

This does not appear to be an issue from the guitar or cable as the pops are not present when I load the JAM file; only if I load the WAV file or copy the WAV file to my computer. I have tried turning the JM4 off and on etc to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe there's a better way to do this that The JM4 is cool, but I'm getting frustrated with this.

I have a couple items I hope you nice folks can help me with. I am getting very frustrated!!!! I have been trying for days to get my workbench to work with my variax 700 acoustic & the USB interface keeps blinking red on the guitar side. I have tried 2 different computers (neither with 64 bit). I have reloaded all software (starting with just the workbench & finally loading up Guitarport/Rifftracker, Gearbox, & Pod xt [more on pod xt later].....

Here is an observation/question. I have noticed that the Guitarport & the Pod xt both have "ESN" #s while the Variax USB interface lists NONE where a number should be. Does this mean something & what can I do about it. The Monkey lets me choose the interface & I upgraded everything but when I try to click on the Variax USB INterface, it says "no device detected" & then a box comes up next saying "no device configured, we will close variax workbench" or something to that effect.

I was also concerned that I might not have USB #2 but under USB devices there are 2 listings at the bottom for "enhanced" + I know my laptop is new enough to have USB2 (though right now I am trying to use everything on my older desktop that I had when I purchased all of this stuff).

With the laptop, I uninstalled everything & then just installed the monkey & workbench & with no other usb devices plugged in, I went around to all 6 usb ports built in to the laptop (there are 4 on the back & 2 on the side). Is it obvious which ones are enhanced or is it likely that they all are?

More important than anything, I just want to tweak my variax in the workbench program I paid good money for (not to mention the fact that I won 2 Guitarports, a shortboard & Podxt, Rifftracker, gearbox and a Variax 700 Acoustic.

Also, a problem has come up with Podxt. In the Monkey (which allows me to choose between Guitarport, USB interface & Pod xt), when I click on the Pod xt there is a caution sign that an update is available. When I click on this it tells me "Important: Your hardware hardware has not yet been activated to allow all the features you purchased." I am to press activate in the optional add ons tab. Each time I try to do this or update the one caution item (USB Firmware) , it goes through the motions & then says "error" "Warning, the transaction verification failed...If problem persists (which it has) click support button. You will not need to purchase another license key to fix this problem......

Again, this problem is secondary to me & way down on the list from getting the Variax USB interface to stop blinking red on the guitar side & let me use the workbench program. In a nutshell for now, is the lack of an ESN number got anything to do with the problem? Any other suggestions? LINE 6 got any suggestions?

I thank anyone & everyone who has tried & will continue to try to help me. I am sure a sledge-hammer isn't going to fix the USB interface the way I want it to work!!!

Some Experiment using M13 as Midi foot controller

Well after a bit of work i realized this:

1) the M13 can work as a Midi Foot Controller

2) it works going on scene set up, at that point if u switch scene by scene than some other effect connected via midi change his preset till number 12

3) the limit it is u can have only 12 switch possibilities because at same time u can have only 12 scene viewable, u can change folder only going on knobs but in a live situation its not handable ofc, so the story of 48 scene its true only considering them as in studio use, (i have not understood how to change solder only going by foot switchs)

4) so if i have understood well i can use 12 scene at same time, selecting it the midi controller give at someother midi unit connected the right program till n.12 meantime u can arrange all the effects u want on the M13

Now a big tip for LINE6, please in the next firmware update create a way to control all the 48 scenes using the foot switches of M13 or create a new way to change folder.

Could be useful a function to go next, scene by scene and reverse.

If this function exists already than help me to find it

Chord Progressions

I just purchased your JM4 Looper. It does everything I thought it would and so much more. I'm relatively new at playing the guitar and the looper seemed like a great device to help me practice and have fun doing it. I was hoping I could use the 'Jam with a Song' function to practice. It seems like a great practice item because it plays a portion of a song over and over -- forever. The only problem I am having is not knowing what chords to play with the songs. Is there a book or paper out there somewhere that could help me out with this? Something that would possible give chord progressions for each song? I've used "Band in the Pocket" CD's before and they have chord progressions with them. Any suggestions?

MKII 112 - Second Impressions

I just got done giving the stock amp a good run through at volume. Here's what my ear is hearing:

This is not simply a MKI with better effects, which are great by the way and a far cry better than the MKI. The amp models have been reworked, and in some cases, drastically. In general, the tone controls seem to have even more effect on most models. Almost every model, at volume, has been rid of the icepick highs that were, to my ears, the overall character of the MKI with the V30. This has been replaced with a slightly added emphasis on the midrange. I wish I had a stock MKI to compare this to side by side, so I am just going from memory. But to me the difference is very noticable. In fact, the V30 can get downright honky at higher settings of the mid control. The low end can still get flubby/farty on the wrong settings, so that could stand some tightening up. I'm still going to go with a G12K-100 which should tighten the low end and smooth out any extreme mid honk. Also, the springs on my tube retainers rattle unmercilessly against the glass when I strike my open D string. They're going to come off.

Specifics about amp models that have changed:

The Metal Blue, which has long been a staple of mine for higher gain Marshall type tones, has changed. Depending on your perspective, for the better or worse. The mid control, which changes the distortion character from a more focused class A type tone at min, to a more modern high gain tone at mid, to a loose fuzz tone at max, is far more sensitive than it was on the MKI and has increased range. Also note, it seems to me that the description of the mid control is reversed in the manual because it says the exact opposite of what I just did. The gain range is also expanded in both directions. Now, pretty much anything before noon results in what sounds to me like a JCM800 at moderate gain. Very punchy and smooth with a restrained top end. The tone starts getting some hair on it as you increase the drive to 12:00. To me, the gain is unusable much past 1:00 with a hot bridge humbucker. I was initially very disappointed with this model in some respects because in essence, my go-to tone wasn't to be found here anymore, but at least there was new territory that sounded very good.

Then I started stepping out of my box. Insane Blue. It's not quite so insane anymore. Again, expanded range on the gain control. On the MKI, anything but minimum gain resulted in screaming distortion. Not so on the MKII. Up to about 10:30 or so it was still very manageable. And guess what? My Metal Blue tone is here now. In the Insane Blue model. But it sounds even better because there's a usable mid control. I'd experimented with Insane Blue on both MKI's to no avail. But on the MKII this is now a usable model for me. Nay, not just usable. Really great sounding. The gain range makes it suitable for everything from a nice rock crunch to metal territory. And SMOOTH. This has singing lead qualities if you want them. There's hair here, but it is GOOD hair. Moderate, usable sizzle. Not fizz. I am really digging Insane Blue.

Metal Amber? Insane Amber? On the MKI, I could tolerate these with the K-100 but not with the V30. Icepicky mess there. But on the MKII these seem to have lost the icepick just as all the other models have and have a usable top end even at higher treble settings. Actually, I could get into these tones also, more so the Metal Amber. That model with single coils has a nice glassy crunch.

Crunch Amber naturally has that Plexi bark...duh. With gain at 12 or below, it is very articulate. Raking a chord, you can hear every note clearly but still have a great crunch going on. I think Eric Johnson or Joe Bonamassa. Good tones to be had here also. Although both this model and the Hi Gain Amber sound maybe just a little too barky/honky with the V30. The K-100 will put this back where I like it.

I'm not going to dwell on the mid gain stuff other than to say that the AC30TB sounds great (Class A Amber), maybe even better than the MKI did. There are some other new offerings there too that sound good, but I will have to explore later.

Cleans are fantastic. I don't know if it's me, but I think the Clean Amber has been reworked because it now sounds a lot more like the clean sounds I was getting from the MKI on Crunch Amber at low gain. I could play that clean sound for days. Very enjoyable.

To wind up here, I still have a lot of work to do but I think the MKII may be a keeper. We'll see for sure what happens after the speaker change but I don't know any other amps in this range that have it going on on so many different fronts at the same time. Effects are really good, amp models sound great, and it's a single package. For under $1000 what else is there? Vypyr? Sorry, not in the same league. Will post again after the speaker change, and I might even include some video footage. Until next time!

Variax Ethernet Connection

I have a problem with the connector in the guitar. The plastic that holds the jack to the body of the guitar cracked and broke, so the jack floats inside. Because of this, I think, everyonce in a while the guitar will cut out and will not be seen by the podxt. I unscrewed the connector on the guitar and tapped the jack where it was broke to help make it more solid. It worked great for a day and then it started cutting out again. Is there any way I can get hold of the jack and the little circuit board that it connects to? It's out of waranty and I'm technically inclined enough to replace these parts. Thanks

I'm using an M Audio Fast track pro interface, to send my output signals to my monitors, however, i can't seem to find a way to do it, when using my Line 6 GX. Is there any possibility i could still use the Line 6, but use my m-audio interface, to carry on sending output signals to my speakers, so i don't constantly have to use headphones when i'm playing/recording guitar?

So I've been trying to figure out some different setups for the X3 Live..What I want to know is how could I used the X3 for basically just delays, phasers, flange, and thats really it...I would use external stompboxs for distortion and overdrive (ie a TS-9 or Sparkle Drive)...then I would want those tones to come out of my amp (let's say a Vox AC-15)..to be more clear I would want this signal chain: guitar, delays (X3), overdrives, amp....or how could I do guitar overdrives, X3, amp..just some questions about setups hope you can help thanks.

I have a Toneport KB 37, a variax acoustic 700 and workbench. I've bought a laptop in the summer to use as a dedicated homestudio. It had Windows Vista on it, the KB37 worked fine but the recording software was plagued with problems due to Vista's clumsiness. I gave up and waited for Windows 7 which promised to be better. It seems it is but I'm guessing I don't have the right drivers for Windows 7 and i can't seem to find them on your website.

Have I missed them?

M9 Expression Pedal Issues

The beauty of this beast is how you can program the expression pedal to control multiple paramters. This is why the delay modeler was such a hit with me. However; I can't seem to get the expression assignments to save. In fact when I turn the unit back on, not only does the M9 not remember my heal and toe settings it won't even recongnize the expression pedal is there. I found (while on the gig) I could go into the setup and turn the expression pedal assignments off and back on again and it would start working, but not with what I programmed it to do- I have to reprogram on the fly.

Now its song 3 of the set. Everything is working, although not exactly as I programmed it too, and I have to tune. By the way, I love the fact this thing has a built in tuner. After using the tuner, the expression pedal is not working again and I gave up trying to use the expression pedal.

So am I missing something? Pleae tell me this is not a bug.

Do I need to be in a different save mode? Its currently set to the default.

I have a pod xt and want to use it for things like reamping. I'm working on a macbookpro snow leopard. I can't connect the pod via USB, I have an error message on the preference panel. The gearbox tells me to update the usb firmware, but I can't do that with line6 monkey because ot the version of the firmware that does'nt allow to update with usb!

I found this workaround but I don't want to spend money just to update the firmware. Is there another way to get my pod xt working on snowleopard?

Q: My unit cannot update via USB, and I have Flash Memory 1.01. How do I update from Flash Memory 1.01 to a newer version?

A: First, verify if you have 1.01. Please hit the TUNER button and scroll using the SELECT knob to the last page. If you have a version later than 1.01, you can use your USB connection.

In order to update your PodXt from version 1.01 to the latest version, you will need to download Line 6 monkey (as described above) as well as a MIDI to USB interface. We recommend the MIDI SPORT UNO from M-AUDIO. Install the drivers for your interface, then run LINE 6 MONKEY with your POD XT unit connected to your interface. Click on the CONNECT USING MIDI CABLES button, and make sure that you see the MIDI IN and MIDI OUTS set to your interface. Then go through the FLASH MEMORY installation as described above. After this is done, you will be able to update your PODxt series unit using USB. See the following link for more information on connecting to your Line 6 unit via Midi:

Hey. Recently I got my Spider Valve HD100 and matching cab. It is amazing. It has so much diversity but I am still lost in finding good tones! I recently got into a metal band with my friends and It will be my first time playing with a drummer with an actual tube amp (i had a 15w spider III before) and I hope to turn the volume up to keep up with the drummer. I have a few questions. I noticed while playing through my 15w spider III I get a nice sound for a song (Waking the Demon by Bullet for my valentine) but when I try to copy the sound on my valve It just doesnt sound the same (probably due to more bass and mid etc.) I'm wondering if I turn the amp louder to keep up with a drummer if I can get a better sound. I'm very happy with this amp but I hope I can get a better distortion by raising the volume (I don't want pedals yet, besides a better noise gate) Tone searching is seriously hard work, at least for me. I love BFMV and if anyone knows a good tone to get for them please share.

P.S. I'm using the amp right now at Neighborhood volume, so very very low in a garage.

I just bought a Spider IV 75 and I'm trying to get a good RED COMP setting for guitar tapping similar to what Minus the Bear uses or what you might get with a Barber Tone Press. Does anyone have any RED COMP settings that you could share to achieve this or do you recommend investing in another pedal for this purpose? I haven't been able to really find any information in the documentation about how to use the RED COMP FX. I've played with the settings a bit but just can't seem to get the result that I'm looking for to do clean guitar tapping.

POD XT Mount

Whilst I love the product in theory, in practise the rubberized pins that push into the holes on the POD don't seem quite big enough. There is a bit of friction when you push them in, but if I pick the POD up without supporting the Mount, the Mount instantly falls away under its own weight. I presumed the rubber pins would fit more snuggly than this so that the POD would be a little more securely attached to the Mount. So I wondered what your opinion is on this and - if you think it sounds faulty - whether I might be able to get four more rubber pins to try out with the Mount?

Also, I understand that you can use screws to attach the POD to the Mount. Should the Mount have come with some screws (mine didn't), or is it up to us to source them? If it is up to us, do you have any details about what type of screws need to be used - in terms of diameter, and more importantly length (I don't want to use screws which are too long and end up interfering with or breaking the PCB or electronics inside).

I would really appreciate any help on this

Tweaking Effect Parameters With Expression Pedal (X3 Pod)

Hi, I have a X3 Pod that I got about two years ago. I've always wondered this, but haven't had the time to ask (been to busy with everything on the X3) about tweaking effects parameters with an expression pedal. For example, I would like to control the speed of the modulation on something like a phaser as I'm playing (with a foot expression pedal). Are the FBV or FBV Shortboard capable of doing this? Or do the expression pedals on those controllers only function for wah and volume?

Spider Valve: SVpre sound samples and analysis

I am starting this thread to share and collect information on how the four push modes of the SVpre alter the sounds of our Spider Valve amps. I am working with a SV112. I have done one test already to see how the four push modes affect changes in volume. I recorded a single sustained note (open D string) into my Boss Loop Station. I set up my Radio Shack sound level meter on a tripod about a foot away from the speaker. I played the sustained tone repeatedly and measured the db level for the four push modes and got the following results:

Mode db level Increase Total increase over Stock Volume Increase over Stock

Stock 79 db NA NA NA

Yellow 86 db 7db 7db 70%

Orange 89 db 3db 10db 100%

Red 93 db 4db 14db 140%

I was quite surprised to see such a large 70% jump in volume from Stock to Yellow. I do not have the equipment to measure how, if at all, the tone changed from one push mode to the next. That is, I cannot measure with any instrument (1) whether or not the four push modes produce the same spectrum of sounds at progressively higher volumes or (2) whether the four push modes produce different spectrums. My SVpre is set up with switches to change between modes, but the switches are on the back of the amp, and it would not be practical to switch between modes to use like you would an overdrive pedal.

I bought the POD X3 Live, I play the bass and I preferred it to the Bass POD xt live because the HW seem to be powerful and with more features, algorithm can be processed with a better quality from a powerful processor, USB2 more memory etc. balanced output for mixer etc... means more quality sounds.

I use the X3live mainly for live performance and sometime for recording, so I hope, I made the best buying for my need, especially if I compare it to bass pod xt live.

I have some questions and feedback.

Questions:

Model pack, I’d like to add more bass amp-cabs in my X3 live; in the comparison chart, you advertise in the web, seem to be included. In Monkey I installed the bass model… I have the green circle that show that the models are installed. When I try to see them with Gear box I see in my pod X3 live only the default bass model (28 amp + 22 cab etc) so do you confirm comparison chart where the X3 live already contain models? If yes how I can add them to the X3Live? In case may you help me on that? Exist another way to check all model installed on pod X3 live?
Translate tone from Bass pod xt live to Pod X3 live A friend of mine use some nice tone on his Bass POD xt live, I tried to import them to my X3 live, but seems not compatible. Exist a way to do that? If not why do not make software that translate bass pod xt live tone to thepod X3 live? It could be useful to expand the pod X3 live in the market also for bassist people.

Advertise better Pod X3 live for bass users Create more info and demo for all bass people that could use X3 live, at beginning all people I ask suggestion said that the pod X3 live is for guitar and not good for bass. I think you should advertise that this is not true, I think the Pod X3 live is an powerful hardware… and should be the best choice also for the bass people. But you do not advertise well this part and exist few information for my point of view sometime are the difficulties to found.
More default tone for the main instrumet you use Made a choose in the Pod X3 live, at beginning during the first startup, you can decide what is the main instrumet you will use to get a default rich bigger number of presets tone suited for your instrument. this give a bigger number of standard tones for your main instrument.

Hello,

I have a POD 2.0 and I have been trying to connect it to the Line 6 Edit software by using a MIDI / USB cable. I did connect the MIDI OUT inlet of the POD with the MIDI IN cable and the MIDI IN inlet of the POD with the MIDI OUT cable. These two MIDI cables end in a little box hardware device provide with 3 LED lights, red, yellow and green. The red LED light is on when I plug it on my computers USB port. However the other yellow and green are always off.  When I install the Line 6 software it asks me to plug the POD with the MIDI / USB cable to the computer and asks to select the MIDI in and OUT ports and type of device. My POD is turned on. I press the MIDI key in the POD and select A, meaning to select all MIDI channels. Which channel should I use? Which is the channel of the PC or Line 6 Edit software? In the software I cannot select any MIDI in port since it does allow me to choose any option. I can select the MIDI out port, I select “Creative USB Soundfont Synth” since I have a Soundblaster creative soundcard. The other option is to select “Microsoft GS Soundfont Synth” whatever I choose does not work. When set any of these parameters it tells me that the MIDI ports that I have selected can not be opened. Therefore I do not succeed to establish the connection. What should I do?

Two questions...stereo effect loop and a m13/m9 question

I recently purchased a vetta 2, which has a stereo effects loop. If I hook my M13 to it with the 4 cable method, will I lose the stereo effects in the m13 since I assume the guitar input on the vetta is not a trs stereo connection?

Also, if I decide to get a m9 to use as a pre effect and put the m13 in the loop, can I dump the midi backup file of effect paremeters from the m13 into the m9, or do they use a different format?

The card is NOT Locked. In the Mac Finder Info, Ownership is: You Can Read and Write. You can see it say Owners Enabled: No, above.

Please advise how to use this card with my JM4.

So, i have a problem connecting my POD 2.0 to my computer. It just simply doesn't work !

When i open Line6 Edit i have absolutely no device to choose from, and when i open Line6 Monkey the POD 2.0 isn't listed...

Here's what i have tried already and the gear i'm using:

First i bought a Midi to USB cheap cable (Swissonic). It didn't work, so i sent it back and got a M-Audio Midisport UNO, which is more expensive, and should work properly.

I have tried different versions of Line6 Monkey and Edit. None of them work. I have installed both the Midisport drivers from the CD and from their website (not at the same time ofcourse) and it doesn't work.

I have tried plugging the cable with the POD turned off and turning it on on the device choice page, or doing it with the POD anlreay plugged in, neither worked.

I have downloaded the Flash thing but i don't know where to put it or how to open it.

There's simply no way to make it work

I have tried to calibrate the FBV express pedal with my new Spider Valve HD100. This is rediculous!!!! Nothing works correctly. How can this be so difficult to do. It worked when I first plugged the pedal in. It was a month old pedal I got from a friend. I programmed my presets and everything was fine except for the fact that the volume or wah did not work. I would like the volume to work, so it was brought to my attention that I needed to calibrate the pedal. Now nothing works except for my D preset ONLY if volume is depressed. What is going on? I was wondering if this is just a setting that i need to change or something, when using my Guitarport with Gearbox, (master volume maxed, out to hardware maxed) the input of the guitar is far quieter than if i say play along to something on Winamp, or while trying to record in Cakewalk. I always have to adjust the Gain in cakewalk down, which then in the end when playing back on say media player with finished product, the recording is quiet because of it.

Basically, my question is, how can i make the input louder? is it a setting within windows volume controls or what, is it a gearbox issue?

I got podfarm and gearbox to work in logic pro 8, but i hear no sound from the guitar, I don't know if i own podfarm plugin, it doesn't show in the Line 6 Monkey app but it is funcional in logic pro 8. Does this mean I have to buy the pod farm plugin to make it work? The thing is, I don't want to buy pod farm plugin and figure out that I already have it and that I had the wrong settings. Isn't pod farm plugin suppose to be free with ux1s anyways?

FBX Wah Volume pedals broken help!

Ok. I just started playing one day, engaged the wah and realized that it was working. The pedals engage and the led's come on but no response. I am using it with a PODxt. It is a fbx longboard. I have tried to recalibrate it and it seems to reset the pedals but still doesn't calibrate or respond at all to the pedal movement. I am nowhere near a service place because I am in Japan and there is only ONE. I have tried many things, but just want to get it fixed. Any suggestions? I assume that I need new sensors or something, but it is wierd. Looking for any help, but be specific please, I have already tried most things.

if i start my computer and then ableton (asio UX2) - so i have inputs 1/2 and 3/4 from the toneport to use ..... everything perfect. line 1 is the input 1/2 and line 2 is 3/4 - but if i start the POD farm (standalone version) from up this time line 1 is input 1/2/3 and line 2 is only 4. i also checked the same situation with the gearbox (standalone) - there is no problem - but i want to use the POD farm! please support me - thanks.

Problems with signals in and out

I've got two problems with my Gearbox software in stand-alone:

1) I can't hear anything from the metronome or player (even the tutorial track) but my signal from amps is OK. However I use Gearbox 3.70 and all the latest updates are installed on my PC.

2) The sound tends to be oversaturated. I can hear it because the distortion presets crush regularly (the problem doesn't come from my instrument or my USB cable or my audio monitors, I verified all that before). Is it normal that the Monitor Clip/Light and the Output Indicator/Clip Light become yellow when I play any note, even very softly, even when both the volume knob and monitor volume are nearly minimum?

I just bought this head used off ebay, I was playing it for the first time today and noticed that on the clean channel (maybe with distortion, but I didnt notice) the amp seems to cut in and out. Ableton Live 8 finds the POD VST Plug-in, lists it and opens it (as demonstrated in the support installation video for Ableton Live); however, I can't get Pod Farm to sound in Live 8; it doesn't seem to register the guitar input. What am I doing wrong?

Pod X3 Pro just suddenly couldn't power up!!

Hi everyone, I just bought my Pod X3 Pro last week, and I have encounter this serious problem, wonder anyone else having the same problem.

I bought it on Day 1, everything works fine, used for 2 days, then Day 3, it just couldn't power up, looked like some fuse problem, so I sent back to the shop i bought from, they exchanged a new unit to me.

So this 2nd unit works fine for 1 week, and now the same problem again, it couldn't power up again!!

I am going to send this unit back to the shop again, they said they are going to exchange 1 to 1 to me again.

But the problem is, I already lack of confidence to this product, can any Line6 tech can tell me what happen? Is it just there is a batch that having this problem? Or something else? And who else got the same problem as I do?

Upon opening Line 6 Monkey, I am alerted of some "new features". Once these "features" were installed, I found myself having a green checkmark on Propellerhead Record. Pretty cool I think...Only problem it asks for a license key and my purchase history doesn't have any propellerhead record key or forthat matter i just don't have one in general so....what gives? Do I or do I not have Propellerhead Record or is it just a checkmark to tell that IF I HAD Record, my amp models would be waiting...?

My XDS95 experiences a distorted output after about 15-20 min of use. If i re-power the unit or simply change channels it functions properly for another 15-20 minutes. The receiver is powered on a pedal board with dedicated power of 9v 100mA. The transmitter is powered by either rechargable 9v or regular duracell alkaline. It happens with either battery. I have tried several options such as removing receiver from the board, and have also replaced a cable that was sent by you guys a couple months ago. (thanks by the way. great customer support). I am only about 6 feet from the receiver when i play. If you have any suggestions on what else i can do to troubleshoot, would be willing to try that otherwise please advise if warrantee service is needed.

HAHAHA, I figured you guys would like to see this. I bought into the hype and ordered a Blackstar HT-5 for practicing at home and for a possible backup if I would ever need it for some reason. It is 5 watts, all tube 2 channel with an FX loop. At first at didnt like it too much but after playing it for a while I had it dialed in and it sounds great! Whats really funny was after playing it for a while I plugged into my SV and my settings sounded almost exactly the same LOL. It just goes to show that you can find YOUR tone with just about anything. It seems like its going to be a nice little amp to play with around the house. Will it replace the SV? HECK NOOOOO! I will try to get a video up comparing the two. I did run them at the same time and it sounded NIICCCEEEE! It sure is a nice lookin little amp!

No Speaker On Valve HD100 Head, Instead Just XLR

I'm desiging a setup for a church's youth praise and worship team.

I was hoping I could use the Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 head and just use the direct out (XLR) going straight into the sound board mixer.

However I know that using a tube head with no speaker connected is a no no. I didn't know if you guys made it that if something is connected to the XLR out then that would be good enough for the head to "think" there is a speaker connected and work fine without damaging the amp.

I want the head because there will be times they will go out and play outside for events, and i wanted something versitile enough to be used in a controlled indoor enviroment, but still able to be taken outside and connected to a 4x10 and knock some socks off as well.

Can this be achieved?

Pod Farm VST and RTAS plug-in freezes Pro Tools and Kore 2

I have been using Pod Farm without any problems for over a year in Pro Tools 7 and Pro Tools 8. I just switched from an Apple 5 to a MacPro 8-core. I uploaded the latest drivers and version 1.11. The Pod Farm stand alone works fine, but the VST plug-in causes problems in Native Instruments Kore 2 (the program freezes while launching, while it is scanning the Pod Farm plug-in) and the RTAS plug-in causes Pro Tools 8 to freeze while trying to open the Pod Farm plug-in. Please help, I have been trouble shouting for a day now, trying older versions, etc. Nothing seems to work and I am on a couple of deadlines.

I'm just curious... Has anyone ever seen the X3L clip light?

i have a really high gain patch in my X3L... and I'm sure I can hear a slight digital clipping going on... but my clip light doesn't come on...

so i know that there's certain FX's setups in my XT that used to sound like that and not show a clip light, whereas others would show the clip light... but the problem i have is that even if I turn up all the vol and gain knobs on an amp and stomp I can't get the clip light to show on my X3L.

I'm assuming it's broken, but does anyone know of an FX/amp combination on their X3 that will always get teh clip light on so I can test... I have high gain pickups in all my guitars so I have the power to clip... so to speak, lol

Hi there...I'm attempting to use my Bass PODxt Live as a midi foot controller linked directly to my mac via USB and using Ableton 6. I installed the monkey...but am finding myself quite confused about how to get the two to interact so as to produce the end product i am after (which is hands-free control of ableton's clips and scenes). I'm wondering if there's some resource out there specifically addressing this...or maybe someone who has done this that I can ask a few more detailed questions to? Incredibly grateful for any advice anyone can offer me with this one!

Pocket Pod not updating correctly?

I updated my Vyzex Editor software to the latest version 1.17, but when I start up Pocket Pod when it's not hooked to the computer (windows xp pro sp3), it shows Version 1.0 in the display when starting. Shouldn't it say the same 1.17, or is this something different? If this is correct, are there are any updates to the 1.0 Pocket Pod version?

I can't tell if I have a hardware (flaky button, twisty know, button) or soft/firm-ware issue. I *seems* to have appeared after a recent fw update, but can't be positive of that.

Symptoms:

Pressing BANK DOWN (bottom left footswitch button) should scroll to the next numbered sequence ( i.e. 21A --> 22A, etc). Nothing happens when I press it, as if the button is disabled (broken)

Patch shows on LCD screen, then flashes over to AMP/CAB page and 'virtual' knobs start spinning, as if possessed by a demonic MIDI controller (there are none, unless we have gone wireless and I missed the memo)

When it gets to *some* semblence of stablized...I might click the STOMP to engage the distortion. Double-tap to edit, takes me back to AMP/CAB screen again. Pressing RT-Arrow (on circle button) will take me back to Distortion page, but unless I immediately spin the selection dial, it falls back to the AMP/CAB screen. Buttons seem to only marginally function.

Is there a 'blow away the entire thing and set it back to the OLD OLD original factory settings, *inlcuding* old firmware, so that I can better pinpoint if this is a programmatic problem, or a physical hardware problem?

I have a gig tonight (Tuesday the 14th of April) If I can reset to factory -- if you think that will help -- I can get my patches rebuilt -- I've saved them all to my pc.

I bought the X3 as a demo device from a german music store. The personal registration onto my name seems ok at my line6 account.

is my JM4 faulty? - SD card read only + unable to upgrade Firmware

I think I have ready all other posts but I am unable to write anything to my SD card. OR upgrade the Firmaware?

I have:

checked the card that it writes on my PC
the phical write enable switch on the SD card is enabled
It keeps saying SD-card is read only
the same happens with another SD card too

also.....When I try to upgrade the firmware it reboots instantaniously and the firmware is the same "DSP2.00 / MCU 1.05"

the fw.bin file is in the root of a freshly formated SD card
the card is only 1GB

Calibrate FBV Express MKII with Spider III 75 amp

My FBV Express pedal does not control volume or Wah. It will switch between the two fine, but moving the pedal has not effect. I tried to calibrate with this method:

FBV Express

1) Unplug the RJ45 cable from your FBV EXPRESS

2) Move the expression pedal all the way to the toe down position

3) Hold down the A and D switches

4) Plug in your RJ45 with the switches still depressed and hold this for 10 seconds (you will see the LED go blank)

5) Move the expression pedal to the heel position and then all the way forward to the toe.

6) Shift all of your weight to the toe position (you will want to stand up) until the WAH light switches on.

7) Wait 10 seconds and click back to VOL. Your FBV EXPRESS is now calibrated.

But on step 4, the LED never goes blank. Are these compatible? I am doing something wrong?

I bought a replacement laptop for a Toshiba Satellite that had a BIOS meltdown. My current replacement is a Dell Studio. It came with Windows Vista 64-bit operating system, but was eligible for a Windows 7 upgrade which I ordered recently (and is due to show up this afternoon). However, I wanted to CONFIRM from Line 6 whether or not your current drivers for all of my Line 6 devices will run under Windows 7. In my case, that would be Windows 7 Home Premium using the 64-bit operating system. I want to make sure all of my programs and drivers will work before even considering Windows 7 (after the Vista fiasco).

I ran Monkey and according to it, my Line 6 drives and Gear Box for the UX8 is up-to-date. So any news you might have would be a huge help!

I was concerned about one of my SD Cards crashing my SJ. Joe would you have any idea what would cause this? Or Line 6 Miller or any of you guys out there? The card worked fine for about 2 months and then it started apparently causing the amp to "pop and re-boot." It did this 4 times and then I just wouldn't plug it in any more. The first time it crashed was just with one of the tracks but it would read the rest of the tracks on the card. Then it crashed everytime I plugged it in. It wouldn't read anything on the card. I had the card completely filled up with backing tracks and songs. And the other full cards I have work perfectly (so far). I have been going through the rest of my cards to see if they are o.k. and they seem to be. I have about 9 other full cards. Could this be just one isolated incident with a defective card? I was concerned when I read some other folks were having the same problem. Could the WAV files I've put on there be somehow corrupted? I have owned the SJ for over a year and it is GREAT. I always do the same procedure as far as dragging the MP3's into i Tunes and converting to WAV and have been successfully doing that ever since the upgrade to 2.09 so I can rule that out. Any input/opinions/information anybody has on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to find a way to use Stereo Delay of 20-30ms as my main sound, but with tap tempo, so I can have longer delays for solos, and then after the solo just re-select my preset to get back to the 20-30ms. The problem is, I cannot get the tap tempo to get anywhere near as quick as 20-30ms; and if I use the delay's 'Time' instead of 'Tap Tempo' option, I will not be able to tap-tempo-extend the delay for solos.

Is there a way around this?

Hi one of my stompswitches on my fm4 fell of. I want to put it back but I need to open the machine in order to do that. I cant remove the circuit board inside. XDS+: RX2 light not lit

The RX2 light isn't lit when I'm at my rehearsal location, but lights fine at home. I tried shutting down all other wireless units active in the space, but it still wouldn't light. I purchased a Line 6 XDR95 wireless system a couple months ago. Tonight, I tried to mount the XDR into a new rack I just purchased.

The two, black metal rack ears have a "key" on the large hole through which the BNC connectors pass.

However, only one of the BNC connectors have the key "flat" area on the threads. I was able to mount one of the BNC connectors, but I need you to send me a correct part that has the flat area on the threads so that I can mount the other side.

For more clarification, the part, to which I refer, is found on page 5 of the manual under Step 1: Preparing Rack Ears for Installation.

Attached is an image showing one correct part and one incorrect part.

I just install the UX1 and did the updates and all that... I can see on the main PODfarm screen that it detects everytime I hit a string on the guitar, so that part is working, but I can't hear anything out of my speakers. I tried a few things control panel and changed the device to UX1, but still no luck. I'm pretty good with computers and I have a good computer, but this one has me stumped. Thanks for any help!

Therefore I want to use Tone1 through guitar input and Left Out before the Amp and Tone2 with the XLR input and right out in the Marshall's effect loop. I'm sure the configuration as such works, BUT is the XLR input capable to stand the signal strengh that the Marshall's effect loop send delivers ?

Well I have a toneport UX-1 and I run it into my old desktop (XP) without any problem. Recently I bought a good laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-AW31M) w/ Vista and the compatibility check says:

"Your processor does not meet our requirements: Dual Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz"
"You seem to have one or more drives in PIO mode."

I don't understand, is this thing made only for old computers? It runs very bad...with lots of pops and clicks and I can't record nothing...I tried to change the drivers to DMA on the Device Manager but its not possible. I really need this program on my laptop. Please Help!

ux8 crashes windows

i recently got a ux8, i installed it on windows xp and its seemed to work ok as a stand alone application through pod farm and gearbox. however when i open cubase sx3 the whole computer freezes immediatly and the ux8 clips lights flash from side to side (indicating a loss of the usb connection) i have to switch the power off to my computer and reboot. It does sometimes, but rarly crash without cubase open. i have reinstalled all the line 6 software, cubase software, disabled onboard drivers, unplugged all other usb connections but it still seems to happen all the time.

I use a dual boot system and have founds that it works fine in windows 7 64 bit, however all my vst software is on xp. any ideas?

I have purchased the UX2, installed Pod Farm and everything works great. I have been using riffworks for the last year for all my recording. So I popped in the Abelton Live Lite disk that came with UX2, and everything installed and is recording guitar great. Quick question:

I am trying to get my midi (M-Audio keyboard O2) set up in Abelton, and I can't seem to get it. Says that the UX2 needs a foot controller for Midi? Where do I get this? I don't see one listed anywhere. How is this going to work with my keyboard? I am confused since I don't need this set up when I use it in Reason.

Originally I had lodged this as a complaint but was told to place it here. I own the Toneport UX1 and the Line 6 HD147, I love them both. However there are amp models on my HD147 that I use and write songs on on a regular basis, but those are unavailable in Gearbox. Id have to purchase an amp model back to obtain them. I disagree with that, because I bought the HD147 looking for a good sound and I got that, I bought the Toneport to record that good sound, but I can only use the base stock sounds which isnt quite fair. Id like to know, if by owning both of these, Id be able to freely get my HD147 model packs for Gearbox or at least if there is a way to transfer my Amp Models from the HD147 to the Toneport/computer. ANd if there is a way, Id like to know how to do it with a detailed explanation. Thank you in advance for your help

I just thought I'd post this, as even a forum regular like me, suggests to many people to get their hardware serviced, but hadn't actually had any experience of service from line6 until a few weeks ago.

I've had my X3L in for the USB drop out, which took juat under a week... which when you think 2 of the 5 working days were shipping it there and back... so a 3 day turn around was really good I think. also it's a real personal service. the engineer even called me to say he was shipping it back, but they couldn't do my footswitch mod at the same time because the footswitch stock was late coming in...

so I waited a few weeks called back to book it in again, and it was returned within 2 working days... I'm not sure how they were able to manage it so fast with the shipping back and forth, which should have taken 2 working days without any time to fix it... but I'm well chuffed... although I've not tested it after this last service, I can't imagine there'll be anything wrong... their first repair left not a single mark on the POD, and it was well packed for the return, etc.

well done line6... 2 service trips, both faster than I expected (one faster than should be humanly possible) and all it took was a couple of short phone calls, and line6 organised the rest...

now that's what I call service!

I was just on the Musician's Friend website looking at the XDR95 wireless system, as I'm just about ready to buy one. However, I noticed that they have the following notice on the XDR95 webpage: "Item Note:This is a clearance item. Quantity is limited to stock-on-hand." The notice is only on the XDR95 model, and not on the XDS95 or the XDS-PLUS.

So, why would they have these units marked as "Clearance"? Is this a soon-to-be discontinued model?

It's been a week since I posted my issue on here about Vyzex crashing at startup and I still have not received any repsonse. I'm going to assume that it is because I didn't mark my thread as a question, so I'm marking this one as a question.

Whenever I try to start Vyzex, it crashes at the splash screen.

I have Visual Studio 2005 installed, and the dialog to debug the crash was behind the splash screen. I opened the crash in the debugger and it appears to be crashing in the CWinApp::_LoadSysPolicies() MFC function (appcore.cpp - line 529).

I have a minidump that I can send to you if you need it. It's over 10MB, so I didn't want to attach it to this message.

This is running under Windows XP.

i'm connecting my line6 POD X3 Live by USB on a laptop with Windows Vista, i've installed all the updates that were needed (except GearBox) and many times the sound is cut off, per example, when i'm doing a drumtrack (acoustica beatcraft) the sound often cuts off, leaving only the sound of my guitar, i have to turn off and on the x3 to get the sound back, but it just cuts off again and again...

Bass PODxt no will no longer power up after doing flash upgrade

Apologies for duplicating this message, but I just realised I did not mark it as a question.

I recently bought a Bass PODxt second hand.

The initial problem was that none of the front panel buttons were responding - everything else seemed to be working okay.

Then the buttons suddenly started working .... then not working .... then working again etc. etc..

As I already own (and have registered) a Bass PODxt live, I hooked up the Bass PODxt to my PC USB.

Now, using Line6 monkey, I connected to the Bass PODxt and re-loaded it with flash version 1.04 (which it already had).

Followed the instructions to power off - the power on again.

The unit no longer boots up - error code #01.

I can still see the status in the Line6 monkey ... so I try re-flashing it again.

Now, after powering off and on again, the unit just keeps going throgh the following cycle :-

LCD back-light comes on

After 1-2 seconds the SAVE, MOD, DELAY/VERB and CAB/A..I.R. buttons light for about 0.5 seconds.

Then they go very dim for about 3 seconds.

Then off for about 0.5 seconds.

Process now keeps repeating.

I did not have this product registered when I tried to re-flash it (only the Bass PODxt live is registered to me) - could this have caused my problem ?

Is it fixable without sending it to authorised repair centre.

Or should I return it to the person I bought it from (although this may be difficult as it now has a different fault to the original "buttons not responding" problem.

Any help would be fantastic thanks.

Spider III trouble

when i got back from the store, i went to play my guitar and i turned my amp on. After playing for literally 5 seconds, no sound would come out of the amp. yes the volume is on on the amp, guitar, and footpedal. i tried all of my cables so they were not the problems. when i do use the tuner on the amp, the notes of the strings do show up, so i know the cables are not screwed up. now the amp only works for the first 5 seconds it is on and i havnt even had the amp for a year. :'(

I have aquired a second Toneport UX1 and have successfully registered the serial number to my account.

I have also purchased the license key for Pod Farm Plug-in. (i am considering buying the Metal Shop and Fx Junky model packs providing this following problem is sorted out)

I have a Macbook AND a Windows PC and wish to have Pod Farm Plug-in running on BOTH computers simultaneously. I have been successful in activating the license key on my macbook but sadly when i tried to activate Pod Farm license key on my windows pc, it said that it was already registered to TonePort UX1 - ESN 1664363

Is there any way possible for me to use the same license key on both computers without having to buy it again.

The reason why I have 2 of the Toneport UX1 is so that I can be running both computers simultaneously with a toneport plugged into my Macbook and the other toneport plugged into my Windows PC (this helps to get work done faster in my home studio)

How can i successfully use the same Pod Farm Plug-In License Key on both devices without purchasing a second license key. (I think that its ridiculous that i have to buy the exact same thing a second time)

G and D strings don't sound loud enough

Hi,

I have a Variax 700. I noticed that G and D strings' sound is eclipsed by the other strings when played together.

They are not totally muted: I can hear them when playing only either or both of them, but they sound like 10dB quieter than the other four strings.

I lowered those strings to feed more gains to the Variax's pickup, but not significant change happened.

I guess the piezo pickup doesn't work for the two middle strings.

Shoud I go to repair shop or can I fix it by myself?

heya,

yesterday i connected my POD x3 to my computer and i used it with gearbox. It worked fine. Then i closed gearbox and after a little while i wanted to star gearbox again. It got stuck at the splash screen at the message: "Initializing subscriber services". I ttried to close gearbox using ctrl+alt+del( i use windows XP) and it didn't work. Then i turned the POD off and it closed... so i left it like that. Today i wanted to use my pod with gearbox again but when i connected my POD to my computer it wasn't recognized anymore, my computer saw it as a Usb Device. So i uninstalled my drivers and gearbox and i connected the POD again, but still the same problem, the computer doesn't recognize it as "POD X3" it just sees it as "USB Device". What can i do? Please help

My 17 month old SV 212 has begun to make a sound similar to a whirring fan noise when it is on, not standby. It vaieis in volume with the Master volume knob but isn't affected by other knobs of switches other presence which changes the tone somewhat.

The guys I play with say its time for new tubes, but as I new to working with tube amps, any amp for that matter, I'm looking for advice on diagnosis and making sure I get the right tubes and install them correctly. I do want to learn how to do this myself.

The other symptom is a gradual muddyness in the clean settings after playing for an hour or so, could these be related? What is the typical frequency for tube replacement?

I'd like to ensure that the individual string volumes on my Vax transplants are at their optimal level. Both have graphtech bridges and I'm aware that the common perception is that their output is hotter than the Bagg's pickups, but I'm not sure how to gauge the volume adjustment.

Does anyone have a best practice for knowing when to stop adjusting the string volumes? Is there an audible or visual way to tell if a particular string is clipping the input of the Vax? I think once I get one string, then the rest could probably be done by ear, but I'd like to ensure the overall volume of the strings aren't too loud.

I know that podfarm can only be used as a plug-in with the podxt, but when i open a session and check podfarm as a insert,

it tells me that its no authorized device connected. When thats being said, i cant go into preferences in podfarm and change to the podxt cause of its plug-in interface.

My pod is up-to-date with the monkey program, and shouldnt have this problem.

I also want to mention the gearbox crash PTLE when i record enable the audio track, but as standalone it works perfectly.

I rather not use a cable from my POD to the mbox2, cause the soundquality gets noticeable worse

It seems I have a couple problems with my L6 gear.

First, on my probably-out-of-warrantee X3L, the tuner doesn't work but the tap does (odd) as well as sometimes the bank-up stomp sometimes works/doesn't work. When I am playing into my DAW via usb it frequently/infrequently quits the usb connection it seems. That is all on that, I'm very happy with it other than the vastness of it lol. Too much can be confusing sometimes.

Second, I have a Line6 Spider3 amp that quit during a low volume jam. Out of warrantee and hardly used but low volume and in studio. Smelled a lil smoke and shut it off. Need that fixed too.

I am somewhat near the Norwalk repair station. Any way ya could help a starving artist to get these things resolved? I always pump up the L6 gear with some opposition, I would LOVE to add awesome service to my argument.

A suggestion to either future M13 chassis or other M-type future products. On the top rim, above the displays, put the legends of the jacks on the back panel so you don't always have to lift it up to see if you are plugging it into the right jack. Bonus points for glow in the dark paint, like on some keyboards. Small things like this really help the ergonomics of the M13. Right now, I put a small white dot above the in and out jacks, so I can at least plug those in without lifting up and looking.

I have purchased a "Bass Pod XT Live" and am trying to use the "LIne 6 Edit" software to work with the tones.

Can't get it to set the device. I registered it and used "Line Monkey" to check all the drivers etc. I also have a "POD X3 Live" and use "Gear Box" without any problems at all.

I am using a Mac running the latest version of Leopard.

The only thing I get with the "Edit" software is the unit with a "USB" and a "Question Mark".

Reset everything to factory settings thinking maybe something was redirected in the unit with no luck.

Your products (I am expecting a new Variax 700 tomorrow) are great but I am stumped.

Gearbox transfer from X3L to Studio GX

Just before buying gearbox I asked (on the old forum) about being able to transfer it if I changed pods.

So I've just bought a studio gx and when I followed the transfer instructions if shows gearbox as working with the GX but with lots of amp models missing.

I'm guessing the full gold package didn't transfer?

Any thoughts?

I don't want to have to pay again to get the models I was using when the X3L acted as a dongle?

My UX2 is activated and recognized and in Logic Pro 8 I can hear the computer sound through the UX2 with a headphone.

The Audio Device (Core Audio) in Logic is enabled and the UX2 Device is selected.

The standalone POD Farm software works with my guitar. I can see a signal and I hear my sound with all the Amps/Effects available.

THE PROBLEM:

I want to use my UX2 as a plug-in for Logic. (3 questions)

Do I have to pick 'New software instrument track' or 'New audio track'?
When I pick one I select the plug-in as an insert. Is that correct?

When I do I can see the plug-in (I get the pop-up screen with all the amps and effects etc.). But I don't get a signal from my guitar.

So the standalone version works but the plug-in doesn't get the signal from my guitar.

What can I do?????

LD Bass Amps - 'Design Flaw' ~ No FBV-2

Do all LD bass amps have this 'design flaw' as the tech describes it? I bought a LD 150 w/ FBV-2 and the FBV-2 did not work with the amp. The tech said 'early LD 150s' had this known issue. So for 2 years my LD 150 sat unused while I rocked away with my Roland Bass Cube 100 (whose 2-button switch works flawlessly by the way). I finally decided to try again with Line 6 as I really like the idea of saved tones and quick recall via the footswitch. So I paid big $ for a LD 300 Pro and...Surprise! It fails with the FBV-2 exactly like the LD 150 did. Do all Line 6 LD bass amps have this issue? The tech said his works and I should buy a FBV Express…not exactly the resolve I had expected. Anyone need a LD 300 Pro…cheap?

M13 Manual Save Mode = Worthless?

Yes, it is at this point. Unless you leave your current scene, the Manual Save mode has no effect and the stompbox basically functions in autosave mode. This makes it effectively worthless for anyone who wants to tweak with the setting while playing and then have it back to normal after they switch off. I actually can't think of a reason to have it set up the current way. Anyway, if anyone from Line 6 is reading, please change this in the next firmware. Far better yet would be to be able to choose Manual or Autosave for each stompbox, but with the simplicity of the machine that might not be too feasible. At least have Manual Mode do something rather than essentially nothing. Thanks.

I am using a PODXTPRO rackmount bought in Florida in 2004 it is a 110v Model and I am now using it to gig

in Lima Peru ( voltge is 220V/60Hz)

after my last jam The POD XTPRO panel started blinking on and off and the clip light is on permanently

as well other lights which just blink and wont let you change or hear anything.

Also the display just shows the background light with no text.

I might add that i am using a 110-220 Converter and Power stabilizer to clean
the supply.

Do you think I could fix this by changing the 110v to 240 V( 500ma SB fuse as well)?

I have been trying to do a *hard reset*the unit but unlike my GSP2102 by digitech
in PODXT you do need to have the LED screen up and runnin....

Do you know if there is a combination of buttons that could be pressed in conjunction
with the Power button on the PODXT to do a reset sort of speak?

Ok . . . I wanted to get a POD X3 Live . . . and I have no idea what to run it through. I looked into Atomic Amps and I feel that's the best thing out there, but it's never in-stock. I currently own a Flextone III XL and was reading how you can run a preamp (like a POD) through it. I bought the Spider lll 30 wt this past week and was really impressed by the Crunch channel. Especially for going for the early VH 1 type tone. Whoever did the modeling did something right. I am using a POD X3 Pro and installed the latest drivers, Logic 8 and OSX 10.5.7 on a new iMAc 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of DDR3 Ram with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130. I am using this setup since 2 months now and occasionally I had to restart my POD a second time to be recognised by my iMac. However since yesterday he will not recognise my POD anymore, I tried everything from using two other USB cables, unplugging everything else, tried different USB ports, restart the system including Mac and Pod several times in different orders etc.... I am always get the same message, no device connected. I am really happy with the sound of the POD but I am getting frustrated with the USB issues. Any advice welcome.

PODxt Soundcard Problem

I get random clicks, pops, static bursts every once in a while when I use PODxt as a soundcard. It happens when I am using my recording software and when playing music with wmplayer or winamp etc. More when I am making music though. I believe it has got nothing to do with CPU because it sometimes goes clean for a long time when I am working on a project with tons of recordings, VSTis, automation and stuff; then it suddenly makes a killing sound burst on a project with just one midi track and a simple VST. I have three USB (2.0 I guess) ports on my laptop. I've got a midi keyboard, a wireless mouse and PODxt attached to them. Disabling my onboard soundcard and wireless LAN won't help. Trying different settings for ASIO stuff (sample rate, bit depth etc.) won't help either. The laptop had Vista 64 bit installed. I had the above problem and i decided to install XP and make the machine dual boot as Vista is no good for making music (and anything else as a matter of fact). The problem persisted in XP too. Then I read somewhere in the site that as dual-boot machines are instable (?) Line6 does not provide support for them. I hoped maybe this was the problem and made a format, and I installed only XP SP3 this time. Nothing changed. I would really appreciate any help, I tried everything I could think of. Peace.

I´ve been using my UX1 with an Intel-based laptop running WXP Sp3 and it worked perfectly for the last months. One month ago, I got an HP TX2000 series laptop (AMD Turion X2, Ati Radeon 3200, 2gb RAM) running Vista and my UX1 just can´t seem to work. I´ve updated everything to the latest drivers, tried disabling Wireless, Onboard Soundcard and everything that has been sugested in this forum, but nothing seems to work. When I change buffer sizes I get some difference (some sounds I play in the guitar are recognizable) but it´s still no good. Is there any known issue with Toneport UX1 and Vista or AMD?

Problem with Headphone jack

I've had my amp for about a year and it has worked perfectly, but just recently when i plug headphones in, i just get constant static out of them. I found that when i turn the amp on with the headphones already plugged in, there doesn't seem to be a problem. But when i plug them in after the amp is already on, i just get static. Is there something that i can try? or do i just need to get it serviced?

Hello all and thanks in advance, I just got the x3 live and was wondering if I can send program change messages to my daw as I read you can with the Pod XT Live... I got a show coming up and I need a usb audio interface/foot controller to control Ableton live... went to the store to get the the XT Live but they only had the X3 Live and I assumed I could use it as it seems you can with the XT... where the pedals on the board send program change messages... I travel a lot to perform and it would be great if I could do this with the X3 since I just got it and would make my life a lot easier.. with the XT it says you'd see virtual midi ports in your daw but I don't see this with the X3... so can I send midi over usb with the X3 or is it only the XT that does this???

POD X3 Live button not working

I fairly recently (within the past year) purchased a POD X3 Live. After only a couple of months of very gentle (bedroom -- not stage) use, the "bank down" button quit working. It clicks, but doesn't register.

I'm a fairly decent tinkerer -- is this a common problem that I can jump in there and fix without voiding any warranties? Or would I be better served trying to get it fixed? What's the warranty cover?

Spider valve HD100 recieved and not working

Hello Today my spider Valve HD100 head came in via shippin slow boat. I was really excited and we (me and friends) picked up the head+cab at my local music store. When we got home we plugged it in and put it in standby and turned it on, the lights on the front lit up and we connected it to the cab. We turned it from standby to on and turned the volume up and tried to test it out with some chords but no sound. The tube lights were not lit at all, only the front part with channel, screen, etc. We called up our local music store and asked them what was wrong and we made sure the tubes were in right, and took the back lid off and got a soft cloth and checked, they were in very good. I was dissapointed and gave it back to the music shop where there technician will judge whats wrong tomorrow and weather to repair it or send it back for a new one. I'm not saying this is a bad amp, but so far I'm dissapointed with getting this and it not working. Like I said the tubes will not light up at all, just the interface on front, and its not the cab or cables fault. If I have to send it back for a new one, I am going to demand air shipping for free due to this inconvienence. Would you guys recommend repairing it if its possible? Or would you recommend sending it back for a new one if something is wrong? I'm asking this because If it breaks again within a year, and DEFENITLY want to send it back for a new one, is that possible?

Pod XT as MIDI controller - not passing notes

Hey there,

I was hoping to use my Pod XT as a MIDI device on my laptop. I've got my FCB1010 programmed to send NOTE data but it doesn't seem to be getting through. Midi Ox shows CCs and PCs coming through but not notes. I can also control the Pod itself directly using the FCB, just as I would expect.

Setting MIDI channel to 1-16 or OMNI has the expected effect but notes still don't get through. Also, neither setting for MIDI Output, Thru or Output, has passed notes. I've double checked the FCB with another MIDI device to verify the data is being sent.

Has anyone else got experience with using the Pod as a MIDI device with Live, Reason, etc, and had success passing notes?

UX2 won't use POD X3L as dongle for POD Farm Plugin

I just bought a POD Studio UX2 b/c I needed a better mic input than what's in my POD X3 Live and I need to be able to record 2 mic inputs at the same time. I also bought it so I don't have to deal w/ the X3L audio drop outs.

What I'm trying to do is use the UX2 as my soundcard in Sonar 7 and 8.5 and have my POD X3L connected as a dongle, so I can use everything in the POD Farm plugin.

The problem is that the POD Farm plugin is only letting me select what the UX2 has in the POD farm Stand Alone.

Sonar only lets me select one soundcard at a time, so I have the UX2 selected.

I am able to use both of my PreSonus soundcards and my POD X3L as a dongle and get access to everything in the POD Farm Plugin.

Please help.

I have the Toneport DI-S. Everything is working great. I'm using Vista 64, 32bit right now but will be using 64bit on a new system I purchased just to run my DAW.

My question is this... what's the difference between Standalone and plugin? Am I not suppose to have it because I'm using a TonePort DI-S? I'm confused because it

is refered to many times in the help and manual PDFs.

Hi there,

I recently purchaesd a used Pod 2.0 Guitar unit. The device powers on and cycles through the PoD2.0 on the display, then the screen sits at 0 with the c lit up next to it. None of the buttons respond to pressing, and no sound comes out either the main outputs or the headphone out.The cables I am using are known to work, and I am using unbalanced connectors. I have tried outputting to my amp and straight into my mixing desk.

If I keep powering off and powering on, maybe 1 in 100 times I may have one of the buttons light up, e.g. the 'Manual' button, and the 'Tap (Hold)' button will flash when pressed, and a noise is produced from the unit. However, only the 'Output Level' dial will have any effect, and none of the others make any difference. Powering off and on again in this situation results in the original problem described.

Have I been sold a unit that is beyond repair, or is there anything that may be a likely cause to this?

POD X3 Pro USB issues with Mac OSX Leopard / GarageBand

Hi!

I am the owner of a brand new Line6 PODX X3 Pro and I have some issues with it.

When I connect it to my 1,8 GHz iMac which is actually running Mac OSX 10.5.6 it is noted by my iMac.

I updated the new driver several times aswell.

So here is the atcuall problem:

When I do run GarageBand 5.0.1, the X3 Pro is noted as interface after I have changed the preferences and set the X3 as IN/OUT. The preferences of my iMac are cahnged to POD UX3 as IN/OUT aswell!

Now I can choose the different channels in the "LINE IN" drop down menu but it actually doesnt mind which one I choose, I do not get any singnal as input. wheter from the stereo, nor from the mono groups. I restarted and updated several times, deleted and reinstalled the driver but nothing did work.

It does not work in Logic 8 aswell. It is shown, but same problem as in GarageBand.

Do I have to chnage something in the "OUTPUT" menu from my X3 to set it to USB? I dont think so as I read that USB gets a signal everytime.

Anybody else who has this issue. I'M actually drivin' nuts and considering about returning it.

POD Farm v 1.10 upgrade hangs my mac

Hi .I and several others have been trying to do the same thing you are looking for line out with speaker still on. I solved the problem yesterday by buying a Radial jdx ampilifer Di box. It is expensive store price $170.00 BUT it sounds great even better than the headphone out on your amp AND still works the amp like normal even when it (di box)is not being used , Doesn't void amp warranty as speaker is being used in normal operation) and even if you had a tech modify your amp and void your warranty you would probably pay that much anyway for the work even if line 6 provided the skimatics which they don't do. Don't get me wrong I love this amp and to me the only thing lacking was this feature so now I have exactly what I wanted in an amp . I would recommend this purchase if you need this feature. By the way the box provides speaker simulator which sounds great ,believe me. , I hope this helps the people on this forum that have been writing in trying to get this feature working on there Spyder amp.

Reordering FX's

I'm new to the M13.... FX's are copied to a new location, but is there an easy way to exchange FX's? (ie. exchange settings in FX Unit 1 with setttings in FX Unit 3).

This would allow reordering of FX's without using a temporary FX spot. For example, to exchange FX1-A with FX3-A, you would have to copy FX3-A to a temporary spot such as FX1-C, then copy FX1-A to FX3-A, and finally copy FX1-C to FX1-A. A simple exchange command would accomplish this in one step.

No Mic Signal from UX2

Ok, first off i would like to apologise if there was another thread posted about this earlier, i just havent had time to thoroughly check them.

Ok, so i bought my lovely new UX2 the other day and i seem to have a problem with the mic input. Im using the instrument normal for my guitar fine and its showing up on cubase SX3, but every time i plug my SM58 into my toneport, there doesnt seem to be any signal at all. There is no movement from the level meters

I have configured the settings with cubase so its the main driver, and it works with the guitar, but when i try and create a new mono bus (i think im right) it still wont pick up the signal for my mic.

Do you think its a configuration problem in Cubase that im missing? i have read over the "Gearbox 3.5" Recording thing numerous times and i still get nothing. Im worried just in case it may be my mic (which i loaned out to a friend)

Hi , im marco and i just buy from a guy a pod x3 .

I cant register my serial number on the site, ive tried many times but nothing seems to work.

Ive registered the serial (and i dont know how i did) but when i go to delete my reg. it says :

And its not over... ive tried to connect my pod by using an new usb cable (1,5m) to my mac (intel 2.4ghz leopard 2.0usb) and on my Windows Vista but nothing seems to work... mac and pc dosnt see my pod x3...

POD XT - Lack of bass

I recently bought myself a new amplifier, the VOX AC4TV, since I wanted to add a bit of tube creaminess to my POD XT.

However, I stumbled upon a problem almost immediately...

When running the guitar through the POD XT to the amplifier I lose a serious amount of bass power compared to connecting directly to the amp.

Using my old amplifier, the transistor based Hüghes & Kettner Edition Blonde, I have no such problem at all. In fact there can be a bit too much bass, but that's just the voice of the amplifier.

I've tried using the built in EQ to correct things, but to no avail. Even at +12,6dB at 100Hz there's a serious lack of bass. In fact there's not much difference at all from the default flat value, not at all close to 12dB.

By the way, I'm using the Studio Direct setting in the POD, since the other settings just scream of digital distortion regardless of the amp I'm connecting to.

What I would like to know is this:

Is this a compatibility issue between the output impedance on the POD XT and the input sensitivity on the VOX AC4TV?

If so, is there any way at all to fix it?

POD Studio UX2 drivers - ASIO vs WDM question

I recently purchaced my first Line 6 product, the POD Studio UX2. My current recording set-up includes: a Dell running XP (SP2) / M-Audio Delta 1010 / Sonar 5. I have spent many hours over the last few days trying to get everthing working together and my question is about UX2 drivers.

Here is a description of what I have figured out so far:

When I have the driver mode in Sonar set to ASIO I can enable the drivers for 1 sound card at a time. As a result I can use either the Delta 1010 OR the UX2 but not at the same time. In this configuration (i.e., the UX2 using ASIO drivers) the UX2 will record with a bit depth of 24 and it supports a sample rate of 48000hz.

When I have the driver mode in Sonar set to WDM, I can enable both the Delta 1010 AND the UX2 but when I do this, the whole project is reset to a sample rate of 44100Hz.

My question is this:

Do the WDM drivers for the for the UX2 support a sample rate of 44100Hz? I am assuming they do and I am just missing something obvious.

Mein nagelneuer Lowdown 110 läuft nach dem Einschalten ganz normal.

Aber nach ca. 10 Minuten fängt er an zu verzerren und schaltet sich dann ganz aus.

Ich habe ihn schon auf die Werksounds zurückgesetzt, hat aber nichts geändert.

hace poco por mi primera vez conecte mi x3 a la compu con el programa GearTone, y crei que todo estaba y seguia normal, pasaron los dias y me percate de que los bloques 29, 30, 31, 32 pasa algo raro, no entran, cada vez que seleciono un patch del mismo como que se reinicia, se apaga la pantalla y todo lo demas, pero eta se ve en blanco, solo se deja ver la luz, y se enciende en el ultimo que si pude usar, imaginemos en 9A, y la verdad si me preocuapa porque estoy prediendo de mucho, si alguien me pudiera explicar que pasa y porque ocurrio, y sobre todo como solucionarlo se los agradeceria mucho, amigos creo esto ya le ahabra pasado a varios o eso quiero creer, porque el manuel y la pagina en si, no dice nada de esto
